OPlayer 1.26 iPad 2 streaming problems

OPlayer plays almost any file formats in your iDevice, no need to spend several hours to convert your videos.

OPlayer 1.26 iPad 2 streaming problems

Postby Embed » Fri Apr 01, 2011 8:20 am

Hi there,

When I try to stream files from an FTP server within my house to my iPad the playback always stops for a second or two.
My guess is that it needs to buffer? My wireless network has been tested and is not the issue.
I love oplayer but I cant watch any videos without getting increasingly annoyed at it stopping and starting all the time.
It also has a tendency to skip a few frames cutting sentences short in films and tv shows.

Please fix this, it is occurring in all .avi files.

Is it an issue about the speed of the transcoding on the device? Because the iPad 2 is the most powerful device and shouldn't struggle.

I look forward to reading your replys,

Thank you.

Mine goes a little slow while streaming, and skips some frames from time to time. It shouldn't.

As the ftp streaming is not steady, next update will remove this feature, sorry for that, but we need to fix the video shutter issue firstly, the new decoding library is not steady.

I don't understand - why remove this feature? It only seems to stutter on some of my files, and otherwise it's fine. Seeing as Airplayer doesn't want to work with my NAS (as per the other forum) I'm currently using this to stream instead. It's not perfect, but better than nothing. Please leave it in there - mark it as a work in progress if you want to, so everyone knows what to expect.

Yep, but you can see that too many people complain about this issue, we have no other choice, don't worry, we will put it back soon.

Ok - thats fair enough and thanks for the warning in the update notes. I guess I won't update this time around and wait for you to put it back in later.

Damn I just updated and didn't see this post.

FTP streaming was the whole point I got this app now I can't.

You say that you will put it back in, whe. Will this be? Is the simple solution to the stuttering playback just the slow transfer and transcoding? Can you not just add a simple buffer time to all videos?

I hope this is updated soon!
In the mean time is anyone aware of similar FTP streaming apps that transcode on the device?
