AirPlayer and Synology

Postby llbts1 » Fri May 03, 2013 3:39 am

How do you make them work? I want to stream videos from my Diskstation to my iphone. When I pick a video, it opens oplayer, and goes to file servers menu. So I bought AirPlayer. It works fine on my LAN, but how do I set it up when I am outside of the local network, over cell service? Port forwarding? Hasn't worked, but Im not sure I am entering it correctly. What is the difference in OPlayer and AirPlayer. Sorry for all the questions, Please let me know. Thanks, Larry
Yes, I am posting this in the OPlayer forum also.

airplayer is a dlna/upnp client for steaming audio/video/photos
while oplayer is designed for local player.

Okay, so if I understand correctly, Oplayer is used on my wireless lan, while Airplayer can be used on my iphone through 4g, LTE? That doesn't make sense to me as I was told you could use Oplayer with the Synology station remotely, not on my lan, to watch videos. I have bought bought both Oplayer and Airplayer trying to watch videos when I am outside of my wireless lan, from my Synology station. I can watch through the wireless network, but can't make a connection remotely. Do I have to forward the port? Which port? How is it typed? Can Airplayer be done through the Synology, or is that just the Oplayer. I am not computer literate, so I need things simple. Please help if you can. Thank you Confused it Texas

Do I port forward the Diskstation, or the iphone? Okay, do you port forward inTCP or UDP? My router won't let me PF in 50001 in TCP? It will in UDP. It still doesn't work in UDP but I can PF that port. Any ideas? Router is a Uverse 2wire 3801 HGV. Thank you

you can open both tcp and udp of 50001 for your media server.
a way to check whether you have port mapping correctly is, input the description url in safari of your iphone, to see whether you can get a xml file

I can only open port 50001 in UDP. Is that a problem? Port 50002 is open in TCP.

No need to port mapping your phone, as it access from the internet.
port map both 50001 and 50002 in tcp

Is it possible to port forward to another port? I have a 3801HGV uverse router. It will not let me forward the 50001 port in TCP. I can open 50002 in TCP, and can open 50001 in UDP, but cannot open port 50001. Thank you for the help.
