Problems since update 1.2.00

Postby Nerk » Wed Feb 17, 2016 12:22 am

Hi,

I've been using your app for a long time and it's fantastic. I've encountered a couple of issues since updating to 1.2.00

I am running an iPad Air 2.

Issue 1:
I have a wifi network at home but it isn't connected to the internet (long story!). This seems to prevent AirPlayer from playing anything at all, including if I try to play an item in my local library. If I connect to my DLNA server and try to play, it will hang on initial buffering indefinitely (sometimes it says "getting more info" or something like that. If I download an item from the server to the local library and try to play it locally, the same thing will happen. If I disable the wifi, or I join a wifi with internet connectivity, then I don't have the issue.

I see no reason why I should need to have internet connectivity to play files and this used to work fine before the update.

Issue 2:
Playback seems to have gone drastically down hill for some files. I don't have my ipad at hand at the moment so I'll update this thread with details on the files and my settings, but it doesn't seem to make any difference if I enable/disable dual core decoding, skip loop filter or skip frame. This file previously played flawlessly in the older version of AirPlayer.

Cheers and thanks for a great product.

Thanks for the reply.

A quick update on the wifi issue; it seems to also happen sometimes if I start airplayer without any connection (wifi or cellular) at all, but occasionally it will play.

The playback perfomance issue:

I'm using iOS 9.2.1.

The DLNA server I'm using is Kodi but I've also tried using windows media player and got the same result.

I'm seeing jumpy performance with a few files, and some are very sluggish. Below is detailed info from one that is very slow:

I should also mention that the example file shown above plays fine in VLC for iOS.

Hi,

I noticed another problem last night. AirPlayer no longer prevents device sleep while it's playing a video. I was playing a video that ran ok from my documents that I'd saved off of my DLNA server, after a while the display goes dim and turns off while the video continues to play. AirPlayer should prevent this while it's playing something.

we will check this issue here.

if you download and play the file locally in airplayer, will it go drastically down hill?

Yes it's slow when playing locally. When I say slow I should say it is skipping a lot of frames (even if skip is off), so it is running at the correct speed but to do so it is dropping a lot of frames.

Currently downloading and playing locally is the only way i can view videos with airplayer because of the wifi bug I mentioned earlier, so I can't compare it to streaming. The only way I can get my ipad online is to tether with my phone (my house has no Internet yet), and if I do that it means I can't also use the wifi to connect to my DLNA server and stream.

try oplayer hd lite, we have integrate upnp feature to oplayer, it uses new decoding engine.

I have tried oplayer hd lite and I'm seeing the same behaviour as AirPlayer, no files want to play until they are downloaded locally, and most of the time they won't play locally either.

AirPlayer also needs the option to turn off the gestures like VLC has. Some of them are incredibly annoying, for instance when it skips to the next video every time I accidentally bump my ipad.

I'd give anything to go back to the previous version of AirPlayer at this point.

Have you managed to reproduce any of my reported issues?
